Glen:”Come sit down beside me.”
Me:”The kid’s aren’t here are they?”
Glen: “No”
I sit down on the couch
Glen: “I need to tell you something…It’s your dad…He has cancer”
I don’t think I’ll ever forget those words. My husband was hardly able to get them out of his mouth. I didn’t realize it, but he’s not just my dad, he’s Glen’s best friend. He has alot to do with why my husband is the man he is today.
I thought God wouldn’t give us more than we could handle. I think the truth is He won’t give us more than we can handle with Him. Â
We can chose to wallow in self-pity, or we can choose to look to God for strength and comfort. Remembering that God is in total control and He has a plan. Jeremiah 29:11 says “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Since we recieved the news of my dad’s cancer alot of talk has gone on in our house, but I think the sweetest things said so far is the prayers of a 7 year old boy who daily asks God to make his Grandpa better and help his Grandmommy with whatever she needs, and the prayers of a 5 year old girl who asks to say the prayer at dinner so she too can ask God to make her Grandpa feel better and not be sick.
God is listening.
Dad’s doctor’s are giving hope that I feared might not be there.
This is more than I can handle; on my own. He wants me to trust in Him and lean on Him. He is in control.
